This tour, strenuous for some, covers all lit passages, within Laurel Caverns, including those shown on the traditional guided tour. It is recommended only for those having the ability to hike 15 stories down a mountain trail and back up. Cave plazas, with benches, are found at the bottom and top of the Grand Canyon Passage. A handout, staff monitors, and informational signs are available to assist participants. Prohibited areas are marked. Those under age 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
The ticket counter opens at 9:00 am, and a five-minute tour orientation is given every ten minutes, the last at 4:00 pm. Participants must exit the cave no later than 5:00 pm. Apart from accessibility issues, this tour has long-served the general-public, even those with infants. It does not require special equipment or clothing, other than a light jacket or sweater, and shoes suitable for walking a steep natural trail.
